Işıl Sönmez (born 1981) is a script consultant with over two decades of experience in the entertainment industry. She graduated from Radio, Television and Cinema department of the Marmara University. She completed her master’s degree on European Cinema at the same institution. The short film “Terlik” (The Slipper) she wrote during her studies received awards in numerous festivals.
Her journey in the industry began by organizing workshops at the Screenplay Writers Association and working as part of the writing team for the “Kızlar Yatakhanesi” (Girls’ Dormitory), under the guidance of Levent Kazak. Işıl started as an intern for popular series such as “Aşk-ı Memnu” (Forbidden Love) and “Yaprak Dökümü” (The Falling Leaves), and later contributed her talents to other TV series, including “Melekler Korusun,” “Yer Gök Aşk,” “Lale Devri,” “Karadayı,” “Ulan İstanbul,” “Hayat Yolunda,” “Zümrüdüanka,” “Güvercin,” and “Menajerimi Ara” (Call My Manager). Her responsibilities included writing scripts and treatments, and developing stories. She worked at the drama department at Kanal D for the series “Bir Litre Gözyaşı” and developed concepts for series.
Işıl furthered her expertise by completing script consultancy courses at New York University and the “Script Reading” program at Script University. Recently, she prepared the Screenplay Doctorate Certificate Program at Nişantaşı University alongside renowned screenwriters such as Birol Güven, Ümit Ünal, and Faruk Turgut. Işıl is also a member of the Yapımlab network, founded by Zeynep Atakan, who was also her mentor.
Işıl launched two script development competitions on Kendi Hikayene Yolculuk (Journey To Your Own Story), the consultancy, learning and competition platform that she founded in 2018. Currently, Işıl is actively working on screenplay projects with her dedicated team and collaborating with other professional teams in the industry.
Işıl has had the privilege of collaborating with esteemed scriptwriters including Levent Kazak, Ece Yörenç, Melek Gençoğlu, Sema Ergenekon, Uğraş Güneş, Eylem Canpolat, Nuran Evren Şit, and Doğu Yücel.
